5 Promises of God

Today I want to give you 5 promises of God that you can hold on to in the storm.

What do you hold on to when all else is failing around you? What anchors you in the storms of life? When you are falling apart on the inside, and are full of things like doubt, fear, shame, anxiety, etc., what helps you hold on and keep going? For the apostle Paul, what kept him going in a literal storm was the promise of God.

Acts 27:25 – “So take heart, men, for I have faith in God that it will be exactly as I have been told.”

As Christians, we are sometimes very good with memorizing Bible facts and reciting them for Bible classes. This is very important, and I don’t want to minimize it at all. But when the storms of life are raging, it will not be listing the 12 apostles that gets you through the chaos. Are you familiar with the promises of God? If I were to ask you to give me just 5 promises that apply to every Christian, could you do it?

Below are 5 promises that come from one chapter, Romans 8. This is my favorite chapter in the Bible!

5 Promises to anchor you in the storms of life.

#1 – Promise of God’s Forgiveness.

Romans 8:1 – There is therefore now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus.

God, through Jesus Christ, wiped away our sins at the cross. Our sins are washed away by the blood of Jesus and the promise from God is, “I will remember them no more.”

#2 – Promise of God’s Eternal Glory.

Romans 8:18 – For I consider that the sufferings of this present time are not worth comparing with the glory that is to be revealed to us.

We can have peace now (Romans 8:6), and we will have eternal peace forever with Jesus.

#3 – Promise of God’s Good Purpose.

Romans 8:28 – And we know that for those who love God all things work together for good, for those who are called according to his purpose.

God has a purpose, and it will be good for us. Our focus should be on the purpose of God and His glory, and while we focus on that, He makes all things work together for good to those of us who love Him. Not everything that happens to us is good, but God works all things together for good. Some horrible things happened to Paul, but it served to further the gospel (Philippians 1:12).

#4 – Promise of God’s Provision.

Romans 8:32 – He who did not spare his own Son but gave him up for us all, how will he not also with him graciously give us all things?

If God gave us Jesus, His only begotten Son, He loves us enough to provide us with all things freely! He provides for our daily needs (Matthew 6:33), for ways out of temptation (1 Corinthians 10:13), and for our wisdom to walk this earth (James 1:5).

#5 – Promise of God’s Unwavering Love.

Romans 8:38-39 – For I am sure that neither death nor life, nor angels nor rulers, nor things present nor things to come, nor powers, nor height nor depth, nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

Nothing means nothing. Nothing, God promised, can separate you from His love. That’s a promise. And God doesn’t break His promises.
